Biodiesel
First-generation biodiesel is produced from edible raw materials. This form of biodiesel faces both ethical and sustainability issues, originating from the increasing pressure on existing agricultural lands and deforestation of rainforests to meet the growing demand.
Second-generation biodiesel is now produced on a large scale. Technological advancements have led to new processes that allow by-products and waste products to be used in the production process. By using these sustainable raw materials in production, we refer to it as green biofuel. This ‘next generation’ biodiesel can be used both separately and in blends.
Biogas/energy
Biogas or bio-energy is a sustainable solution for all types of oil and fat waste products, such as tank bottoms, grease traps, glycerine, and restaurant waste. The fermentation of these components produces 100% green gas. This gas can then be upgraded to a high-quality gas for households, used as fuel, or for so-called CHP engines (combined heat and power engines), which convert the gas into green electricity.
